Happy Birthday to the Boy Who Changed My Life

Dear Ethan,

Happy birthday, sweet boy!

Eight years ago you started the process of changing my life in beautiful, wonderful, amazing ways.

I had always liked myself, and I had always considered myself a nice person.  But, you, my sweet boy, made me truly love in a way that I did not even know was possible.

I knew the love of being a mom.  Your big brother had already created me into the person who I was always meant to be.  The moment I held him, the unicorns and rainbows appeared, and they never left.  I held on to the title of momma as if it was worth a million dollars because, to me, it was.  Actually, it was…and is…worth so much more than that.

However, you continued that process.  That process that is so hard to even put into words. The process that can only be described as life-changing, pure, simple mommy love.  I loved you when you were screaming in pain. I loved you when you woke up every 1 1/2 hours for most of your first 18 months.  I loved you when you laughed and smiled.  And, I loved you the most when doctors told us things that were inaccurate.  I loved you the most then because I knew that you were a fighter.  I knew that it did not matter what the doctors had to say.  I knew that you were all mine, and nothing would ever, ever change that.

You see, sweet Ethan, people tell me all the time that I am the perfect mom for you.  Well, of course I am. God chose you for me.  He did that because He knew that you would be the perfect second son for me.  He knew that I needed you, maybe even more than you needed me.  He knew that you would open my eyes, turn that kindness that was always in me into compassion, caring, and real, true love.  Every time I looked into you eyes then…and when I look into your eyes now…it is as if you have a secret, the secret to the universe, perhaps the secret to world peace.  And, I cannot help but think that if more people were just like you, the world would truly, honestly be such a better place filled with more joy, more happiness, more true, pure love.

So, today we celebrate you.  We celebrate the fact that you have changed our lives, and the lives of everyone who has experienced your gift, in so many amazing, unimaginable ways. In a way, I am celebrating me, too.  Not just because I had you 8 years ago at 10:06 am. But because I feel like I was born that day, too.  Thank you for giving me the gift of life on your birthday, sweet boy.

Today and every day, I hope that you know how much you are loved.  I hope that you know just how special you are.  And, I hope that you realize that those unicorns and rainbows that appeared the day Gabriel was born were there the day you were born, too.  The unicorns were celebrating, the rainbows were brighter than I have ever seen, and the angels were everywhere.  They still are.  Yes, you are truly that special.

I love you, Ethan!

Summer Fun: Go to the Peach and Melon Festival Parade

Photobucket

There is a Peach and Melon Festival in my hometown.

For the past 7 years, we have been attending the annual parade.  Summer was actually in my belly the first time we went, which means that Gabriel was three, and Ethan was 1.

Photobucket

We love it.

The littles look forward to it each year.

This year, two hours before the parade was set to begin, a rain storm came out of no where. There was rain, thunder, and lightning.

Photobucket

We celebrated the rain, but, at the same time, we were hoping that it would pass in time for the parade.

When I called to check the status, we found out that there was a delay, but the show would still go on.

Photobucket

And, go on it did.

Photobucket

The parade is a combination of where I went to school…

and the town where we moved when I was in 8th grade.

We continued going to school in one town and living in another.  There are wonderful memories from both towns, and the parade always reminds me of those fun, happy summer days.

While the temperature is typically a steamy 95-100, it was 77 degrees, which was absolutely perfect.

Photobucket

Yes, it rained off and on the whole time we were there.

But, when we looked up and saw a double rainbow, we knew that there was luck…and definitely unicorns…all around us.

Weekend Things

We had a great weekend.  Sean is finally in his slower time of the year at work, which means that he is taking some time off to be at home with us.

1.  We started the weekend early by going to Sea World on Thursday.  It is a magical place  with unicorns in the form of dolphins and rainbows everywhere we look.

2.  On Friday, we had pizza and movie night, followed by a little celebration because Cooking for My Kids turned 1.

3.  I did a little photo shoot with Ethan when I was writing his weekly progress report.  I love looking back through pictures of him and seeing how much his personality shines through in every single photo.

4.  Sweet Gabriel started feeling rotten on Friday.  We did multiple breathing treatments throughout the day, and by Saturday, his lung capacity was much better.

5.  What was supposed to just be a quick mowing job on Friday turned into an all-out landscaping weekend, complete with mulch, stones, and more grass.  The yard beautification project continued, and I am very pleased with the results. It is times such as this that my husband is so glad that I was raised on a farm and can hold my own with yard work.

6.  We went to see Brave on Sunday, and it was such a sweet, feel-good movie.  When Gabriel asked me my favorite part, I said, “When the daughter realized how much she loves and needs her mom.”  He said, “I knew you were going to say that.”  My children know me so well.  Family is everything.

I could not ask for more in a weekend – Sea World, a celebration, yard work, family time, and a movie.  It does not take much to make this momma happy.

Have a super week!
