I had a busy day, and while it is often easy for me to get caught up in my to-do list and what I need to get accomplished for the day, I am trying to remember that there is a time and a season for all things.
A time to work.
And, a time to play.
Today, my girl wanted to play. I had promised her a mall date, and I could not handle the thought of disappointing her.
So, while she patiently waited for me to do some cleaning for the arrival of our new washing machine, I sprinted through a house-cleaning session.
Note – The arrival of the new washing machine brought great excitement to the house. It is all about the simple things. Even without the picture, I think that I will look at that washing machine from now on and remember the look of excitement on their faces as they watched the first load of clothes spin around. Priceless.
Then, she eagerly helped me make cookies for some very special teachers.
I was so glad that I stopped to smell the roses for my mall date with my little girl. It only lasted an hour, but it was the best hour of my day. To sit across from her and see her smile was the definition of peaceful, joyful contentment. Watching her share real rides on the machines at the mall with a little girl who was just pretending to ride the rides was heart-warming. It is those moments that I value the most about being a mom. Yes, the house needs to be cleaned and meals need to be prepared, but the time that I take to spend with my littles is what I will remember 10, 20, 30 years from now. I know that I will continue to do all of the daily and weekly things that go into taking care of a home, but I also know that there will be more mall dates in our future, too.
So, the reason that I was hurrying so much to get everything done today is because I knew that something special was on the agenda for tonight. We are a huge football family, and, after many months of waiting, college football season has arrived.
I try to do things to celebrate game days. Even though our team is not playing tonight, I wanted to do something special to kick-off the season.
I put together a quick and easy meal for tonight. Since I had planned to just celebrate football season on Sunday when we play, I had not planned a celebration dinner for tonight. I started thinking about what I had on hand, and I immediately new what I wanted to do – BBQ Beef Sliders.
We cut the rolls in half and spooned some of the BBQ beef inside. They were delicious!
